New Paddlers

Thinking about taking up dragon boat paddling?

New paddlers are always welcome at our club regardless of experience, gender or fitness.   

All are welcome, especially people 40 years of age and over. We are a seniors’ focussed dragon boat club. 

You can join for one month with a Dragon Pass FREE of charge so you can get a feel for the sport and a taste of what our club is like. Contact us and we will work out how and when we can help to get you started.

Coaching

We have a coaching team made up of qualified coaches.

What we provide

  • Dragon Boat
  • Paddle
  • PFD (a personal floatation device which is similar to a life jacket)
  • Coaching

What you need to bring

  • Clothes that are comfortable to paddle in -  hat, shorts, a t-shirt, and runners (Spring/summer)
  • Thermals, spray jacket and paddling gloves (Autumn/Winter)
  • A dry change of clothes.
  • A water bottle.
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat
  • A desire to have a bit of fun.

Training times

Training is held 3 times a week in the warmer months, reducing to twice weekly in the colder months when the Monday training session is dropped. 

  • Saturday 8:45 am  to 10:30 am (New paddlers need to start on a Saturday for coaching purposes)
  • Monday 5:45 pm  to 7:30 pm 
  • Wednesday 5:45 pm to 7:30 pm 

New paddlers need to be at the Community Boat Hub by 8.30am on Saturday to be fitted with a paddle and PFD. And it's helpful if you contact us in advance if you intend to drop in so we can keep an eye out for you.

Location

Community Boat Hub 912 Collins St. Docklands (Melways Ref: 2E 7E). This is next door to the "Library at the Dock" (Docklands Library). Click here for a map.

Parking

Street meters or car park off Seafarers Lane.

Public Transport

Trams 11 and 48 terminate in Collins Street in the "Free Tram" zone near the 'Library at the Dock'.
